Erika Lyn Smith is the Topic Editor and Feature Writer for Suite 101's Forensic Science. Erika Lyn is a registered nurse who began working in psychiatric medicine in the mid 90's. She has worked with children 3-12, adolescents 13-17 and adults 18 to 99. As a psychiatric nurse, she finds all aspects of behavioral medicine fascinating. Currently Erika Lyn Smith is completing her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and Institutional Health Care and Human Service.

In addition to psychiatric medicine, Erika Lyn Smith has always found the vast field of forensics incredibly fascinating. Forensic Science provides the answers to legal situations and questions in the civil and criminal court system throughout the United States. The forensic science field provides the resources that help good prevail over evil and with the continued advancements in technology the field of forensics is still in its early childhood.

In fact, Erika Lyn Smith loved forensics so much she competed the Saint Louis University School of Medicine Medicolegal Death Investigator Training course, where she learned how forensic science and scientists put the pieces of the puzzle together when death comes knocking. Death can keep a secret for a long time, but forensic science will eventually set the truth free.

How wonderful it is when a family receives the long awaited answers to what happened to a loved one taken violently from this world. Once considered unsolvable cold cases because the technology at that time could see or provide the answers that were waiting so patiently for discovery. The field of forensic science allows the dead to speak from beyond the grave and tell their story after a violent death.

Erika Lyn Smith is a freelance writer, journalist, editor and photographer. In addition to Suite101, Erika Lyn Smith is the editor for BellaOnline’s Missing and Exploited Children website.
